Belling the Cat

Belling the Cat - book illustration by Tanya Colee

CatsBell is the name under which I occasionally contribute to the discussion forums of South African online news publications  (that’s what I am – South African).

The name refers to the Belling the Cat fable where a council of mice decide to tie a bell around the neck of the resident cat to warn them of its approach, but then run into the problem of who exactly is going to do the bell-tying.

The point of the name is that the Internet has stuffed a box full of bells and ribbons into the paws of each of us and the way I’m using mine is through news comments.  Now you know more about my nic than you’d counted on…

The purpose of the blog is to serve as an occasional “overflow” for my news comments.  Many of you who contribute to news discussions will know about sometimes needing more words to make a point than would be polite to post as a news comment.  This is where I’m posting the comments that don’t fit.

That means that there won’t be a regular flow of articles to this blog – please use the email notification function if you want to receive notifications of my occasional longer squeakings.
